Reflection of Part 1
During part one of my honours programme, I learned a lot of things. In this part, I will mention some of the insights I had during November and December. I realised over time that personal growth often comes with moments of feeling overwhelmed, especially when I am trying to balance planning, studying and creative work. The projects that we had to do, like making this portfolio and working on a mini documentary, showed me just how much time and effort go into building a website and producing creative projects, and it made me aware that if I want to continue working on documentaries, websites and similar projects, I will eventually need a better laptop to support my work. Along the way, I developed practical skills such as website building and understanding copyright on digital platforms, but I also recognised that I need to learn more from real-life situations rather than relying only on academic papers.
My Instagram feed moved from cat videos to informational videos on content creation, showing me that the next part of my story is near, and learning me how I can move from a student to a professional. Throughout this process, I often found myself doubting whether I could really succeed in a serious or high-level position, even though I have already been in management and have proven myself before. I have always had great respect for people working in media production and large marketing teams. Everything used to make me really nervous.
However, this programme made me realise that the distance between where I am now and where I want to be is actually much smaller than I imagined. Being surrounded by real examples and seeing how the industry works in practice helped me understand that I am capable of taking that step. After investing so much time, money and effort into my education, I finally recognise the value of my own skills and feel ready and confident to move forward into the career I want.
I hope I can use this newfound confidence in part 2, because I will need it. The production of the final project will only be a great success if I put all this newfound knowledge together and hopefully. The best part of the media I ever created.
