November/ December

In November and December, I will conduct research for my project. There will be little production of the documentary yet. This research will encompass both non-academic and academic aspects. In the next part, I will specify what belongs to what.

  • Academic research: I can look into papers about Storytelling Theory (How narratives evoke emotion and connection), Visual Communication Studies (how imagery, color, and pacing influence audience emotion), Media Psychology (attention, overstimulation, and emotional resonance in short-form media), NGO Communication Strategies (how nonprofits use storytelling to inspire empathy rather than pity), and Case Studies (academic analyses of campaigns like UNICEF, WWF, or Amnesty International short films). This research will be done by the beginning of December.

  • Non-Academic research: I will be watching emotional short films or mini-documentaries, studying visual tone and rhythm (how filmmakers use silence, framing, and light to create emotion), analyzing social media campaigns that rely on minimal words but strong imagery, exploring Canva & CapCut tutorials for storytelling layouts, transitions, and minimalist text design, and creating a moodboard on Pinterest or Canva with visuals that capture the aesthetics of my project. This research will be finished by the end of December.

Hey! Remember my learning goal? This is how far I have come by the beginning of December.

    • I focused on research and preparation, learning to stay patient and organized before starting production. In contrast to know, I would like to rush into the production first. I really noticed how this also contributed to the way I handle my own projects now. I feel like the documentary that I did on Europe helped me understand which steps I had to take next in this documentary.

    • I have come far with my research, and I have blogs posted on my academic research. You can find them under the tab academic research.

    • I also changed my notes into this website, which makes it more organised.

    • This phase connects to “Slow Down & Be Present”, “Tell Stories Visually”, and “Build Creative & Technical Skills.”
